Fairness Forums & Debate Watch Parties in Newburgh & Syracuse October 22
Labor, community, student & faith groups are working together to make economic fairness, poverty & income inequality key issues in this year’s elections — and we’ll be in Newburgh and Syracuse on October 22 with U.S. House candidates Sean Patrick Maloney and Dan Maffei for real talk about the issues and a debate-watch party for the last Obama-Romney Presidential Debate.
We’ve been holding town hall forums across the state to talk about how to move away from austerity & income inequality towards prosperity for all. Join hundreds of local activists, union members, students and people of faith to meet candidates for the U.S. House and State Senate and question them directly on the most important issues in this year’s elections.
Our roadmap for State policies: increase the minimum wage; end money-for-nothing economic development subsidies and wasteful corporate tax loopholes; utilize fair taxes and fair budgets to make investments in infrastructure & education that will create more good-paying jobs; strengthen the safety net, don’t cut it.
Our roadmap for Federal policies: pass the Buffett Rule and Obama’s balanced plan on taxes to make the 1% pay their fair share; protect Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid; stop the Ryan budget • Campaign finance reform and public financing of elections to make politicians work for the people, not their corporate sponsors.
Our elected officials must recognize that the path we’re on is not sustainable. Real reform means reducing inequality and rebuilding the middle class — it’s fiscally responsible to create higher and better standards for our public investments in growth and job creation.
For more information about our Newburgh/Rock Tavern and Syracuse forums, give a buzz to our labor and community leaders in each area — join us in the effort to take our state in a different direction that’s more prosperous, more sustainable and more fair.
